Small Bathroom Design Ideas
Small bathrooms are the ultimate test of creativity and imagination in most designers and homeowners. Since there is a space limitation, remodeling a small bathroom is something that requires careful planning. If you are planning to redecorate your small bathroom, here are some pointers to get you started.
First, you need to understand that having a good color scheme is the one of the best ways to open up a small bathroom. If you have a large bathroom, you can basically choose any type of color scheme and it should work; however, with small bathrooms, it is best to use light colors or bright colors. Avoid using dark hues since this could just make your bathroom look even smaller than it already is.
You should also make sure that you are able to use the available space efficiently and wisely. You can do this by getting rid of unnecessary clutter and having additional storage solutions. If you would be installing additional storage cabinets, make sure that you would be placing them as close to the ceiling so that you would be able to have more available floor space.
When shopping for bathroom fixtures and accessories, try to go for those that are smaller but offer the same functionality. This would give the illusion of a bigger bathroom. Avoid large items as these can make the bathroom appear cluttered.
Lastly, installing the right lighting can also make your small bathroom appear larger. Some good choices would be using recessed lighting and skylights with large windows and a large mirror.
Small bathrooms are actually quite easy to work with, once you know what you need to focus on. By carefully going through the available options, you should be able to choose the design ideas that would best suit your needs and your budget.
Different Types of Showers
Choosing a shower is not as simple as walking into a shop and picking up the one shower they have on the shelf!! Walk into any DIY store or browse the web for showers and you will be swamped with different types of showers and a whole host of different brands, from Triton showers to Creda Mixer showers.
Tower Showers
These showers have a high shower arm which arches over you while you are in the shower so that the head is directly above you. The large shower head means that the water falls directly down onto you, it is a very invigorating shower
Mixer Showers
If you want a luxurious shower at the right temperature for you then a mixer shower could be the right choice. The showers mix existing hot and cold water supplies, whether its tank-fed or mains-fed a mixer shower can be used, but ideally the two supplies (hot and cold) need to be fed at the same pressure, if this cannot be achieved then some additional plumbing work will be required to fit a pressure balanced mixer valve. The down-side to these showers…if they are connected to water pipes that supply other areas of the house make sure that no one runs a tap or flushes the toilet!!!
Power Showers
For when you are looking for that little bit extra!! These are similar to mixer showers except the rate of flow of the water supply is increased through the use of integral pumps. So if you like the temperature control of mixer showers, try upgrading to a power shower to get that extra flow rate! One quick drawback to mention – you need to have a tank-fed water system for a power shower, and make sure that the water tank is above the level of the shower so that the pumps do not suck air. These showers may not be suitable therefore for loft conversions where shower cubicles are added to the loft which has an existing water tank which will end up below the level of the shower.
